Global Alpha Q1 Earnings Watchlist
We have put together a concentrated watchlist of high-quality businesses featuring durable competitive moats, strong structural tailwinds, and attractive valuation.
Earnings season is underway, with market focus concentrated on companies driving AI infrastructure, enterprise automation, and the electrification of the global economy. We have put together a concentrated watchlist of high-quality businesses featuring durable competitive moats, strong structural tailwinds, and attractive valuation. Tonight: Intuitive Surgical (ISRG) ★★★★☆ Reports: April 21, after close | Price: $469 | P/E: 60x Consensus: Revenue $2.62B, EPS $2.08 | Implied move: ±1% If you want to start earnings season without drama, this is your name. Intuitive Surgical has beaten consensus in seven of the last seven quarters. It is trading 22% below its 52-week high of $604. The implied options move is just 1%, which tells you the market is not pricing in any real volatility. The robotic surgery thesis needs no reinvention. Da Vinci procedures account for a fraction of total addressable surgical volume globally, aging demographics in developed markets drive structural volume growth independent of the economy, and the fifth-generation da Vinci system is still in the early stages of hospital adoption. The Ion bronchoscopy platform adds a largely untapped lung biopsy market on top of that. What we are watching for: procedure volume growth trajectory and any commentary on da Vinci 5 adoption rates. International expansion — Europe, Japan, and the longer-term China story — is the compounding optionality that gets underappreciated. The risk is CMS reimbursement policy and tariff exposure on imported components. Neither is a near-term earnings event. For anyone with a medium-term horizon, this is as close to a clean setup as you get in this cohort. Low risk, high quality, sensible entry. Tuesday: Four Names, Four Themes GE Vernova (GEV) ★★★☆☆ Reports: April 22, pre-market | Price: $1,003 | P/E: 57x Consensus: Revenue $9.18B, EPS $1.79 | Implied move: ±5.5% GE Vernova sits at the intersection of every major power theme simultaneously — AI data centre baseload demand, US grid modernisation, industrial reshoring, LNG infrastructure, and the long-term energy transition. The $150 billion backlog with all production sold through 2028 is extraordinary forward visibility by any measure. The issue is that the stock knows this. At $1,003 it is pressing against its 52-week high of $1,009, and the EPS beat record is mixed — two misses in the last four quarters. The wind segment continues to bleed (losses guided at around $400 million for FY2026), and a guidance miss from this altitude would sting. What we are watching for: whether the Electrification segment order book is building or plateauing, and any narrowing of the wind loss guidance. For existing holders, this is a position management moment. Not the setup to add size aggressively. Vertiv (VRT) ★★★★☆ Reports: April 22, pre-market | Price: $307 | P/E: 90x Consensus: Revenue $2.65B, EPS $1.13 | Implied move: ±8.5% Vertiv is the pure-play on the two most acute bottlenecks in the AI buildout: thermal management and data centre power infrastructure. As GPU rack densities push traditional air cooling to its limits, Vertiv's liquid-cooled and direct-to-chip solutions are moving from optional to mandatory. Goldman Sachs and Citi both raised price targets this month — to $311 and $340 respectively. The recent beat record is excellent. Q4 produced a +24.5% post-earnings move. Q3 also beat. Management has consistently guided conservatively and delivered above it. The bar for this print is high at 90x P/E, and the implied ±8.5% swing is real. But with hyperscaler CapEx running hot and order intake visibly accelerating, a beat plus raised full-year guidance remains the more likely outcome. Strong setup. Key risk: tariff exposure on imported electrical components is a margin headwind that management will need to address directly. ServiceNow (NOW) ★★★★☆ Reports: April 22, after close | Price: $97 | P/E: 58x Consensus: Revenue $3.75B, EPS $1.22 | Implied move: ±8.6% Here is the contrarian setup in this group. ServiceNow is down 54% from its 52-week high of $211. It is trading at $97 — price levels last seen in 2023 — on a business that is still growing revenue above 20% annually and sits at the centre of enterprise AI deployment through its Now Assist platform. The market has been brutal here. Federal exposure has deteriorated. The AI disruption narrative — the idea that AI agents could eventually automate away the workflows ServiceNow manages — has created a persistent valuation ceiling. Even Q4's beat got punished with a -10% post-earnings reaction. But the setup has changed. Consensus is at realistic levels. Price targets have been revised down aggressively. Every major analyst has a Buy rating. The question is simple: does cRPO growth confirm that enterprise customers are committing to AI workflow tools, not just piloting them? If the answer is yes, the re-rating from $97 back toward fair value could be substantial. Higher risk than ISRG. Higher potential reward. Lam Research…
